Our Teaching Methodology
Our Teaching MethodologyMentora College designs all of its courses around a communicative approach that uses authentic, real-world language. Classroom interaction is based on meaningful communication and emphasizes the functional development of students’ language abilities. The reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities are designed to simulate real-world situations and include materials such as radio broadcasts, films, documentaries, guest lectures, and educational field trips.
Our teachers’ teaching methods stimulate and extend communication and critical thinking skills. Our goal is to help students improve their abilities, leading them to become effective readers, writers, communicators, and life-long learners.
Personalized Learning Method
At Mentora College, we acknowledge that our students come from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds and we continually assess the individual needs of our students. We recognize that students have many different learning styles such as kinetic, audio, or visual. By recognizing and embracing their individual needs, we are able to create an effective, collaborative learning environment with a variety of activities so all of our students can succeed. Mentora College evaluates the progress and satisfaction of our students. At the beginning of each session, students are asked to state their goals, weaknesses, and strengths. This allows teachers to motivate students and gauge their progress. Students also evaluate Mentora College’s services and this information will be used to improve our curriculum/lesson plans in the future.
We believe that every student can succeed while attending English language courses at our school. Dedicated to providing personalized student learning and ensure our students’ success, we offer free tutoring for those who are in need of support. Teachers are available to work with students in a one-on-one environment where student can ask questions, seek clarification, or receive assistance on topics or areas of language-use that are challenging. This opportunity of personal tutoring sets us apart from other language schools in the area.
Our educational materials focus on American history and culture, providing opportunities for students to perfect their comprehension of American English. Our courses use authentic media that Americans use nationwide to learn about current events in the country and around the world. Students who complete our core curriculum also have the opportunity to take our audio-visual course, American History and Culture through Film, which looks at major events and cultural trends in the United States through documentary films, historical fiction movies, and educational television programming. This and similar courses on American Ways and Culture are for advanced students who have high-level abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
In an era of a new generation of education, Mentora College classrooms are equipped with technology-based educational tools and applications such as projectors, surround-sound speakers, computers, interactive whiteboards, and Wi-Fi to increase student participation and make classes engaging.
